Yoga Killer

Yoga Killer

  • US marshals caught a yoga-enthusiast-turned-fugitive in Costa Rica through a fake yoga instructor ad

  • On May 11, 2022, yoga instructor Kaitlin Armstrong fatally shot professional cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson in what authorities called an act of jealousy over Wilson’s prior relationship with Armstrong’s boyfriend

  • A video showing Armstrong’s Jeep at the murder scene tipped authorities off to her involvement, but before they could locate and arrest her, she fled abroad using her sister’s passport

  • Authorities tracked Armstrong to Costa Rica, where she had assumed a fake identity and undergone plastic surgery to change her appearance

  • They believed she was hiding in Santa Teresa, a beach town outside the country’s capital, but had difficulty finding her

  • “I think from the get-go we were told…you’re gonna be in for a surprise, ‘cause a lot of the women in Santa Teresa look just like Kaitlin – a lot of them,” a US marshal recently told CBS

  • The case went cold until US marshals devised a new method to lure her out: An ad for a fake yoga instructor position

  • The ad said, “Hey, we’re at this hostel, we’re looking for a yoga instructor as soon as possible. Please contact us at this number,” a marshal told CBS

  • The ploy worked: Armstrong applied for the role, leading to her arrest and extradition to the US

  • A jury convicted Armstrong of murder in November, and she was later sentenced to 90 years in prison

  • US marshals publicly revealed the details of her arrest on CBS “48 Hours” program on Saturday
