Iranian Bombing
Iran bombed what it called militant bases in southwestern Pakistan, provoking a furious response from Pakistan
On January 3, ISIS suicide bombers killed 84 Iranians, marking the country’s worst domestic terror attack since at least 1979
Iran accused Israel of working with ISIS, and on Tuesday, bombed what it called Israel’s “espionage headquarters” in northern Iraq
Later that day, it also bombed ISIS targets in a rebel-controlled part of Syria
Also on Tuesday, Iran launched missile strikes against what it claimed were militant bases in southwestern Pakistan
Iran claimed it targeted Jaish al-Adli, a Sunni Islam group that Iran, the US, and other countries consider a terrorist organization
The group – responsible for numerous attacks against Iran, including a deadly assault against an Iranian police station last month – advocates for majority-Sunni regions of Iran to secede
Iran and Pakistan – a nuclear-armed country – are generally friendly, although for years both have accused the other of harboring terrorist groups
Following last month’s police station attack, Iran claimed Jaish al-Adli fighters were based out of Pakistan and blamed weak Pakistani border security for allowing the attack to occur

“We only targeted [Jaish al-Adli] terrorists on the soil of Pakistan,” Iran’s foreign minister said following the attack
Yet Pakistan called the attack “illegal,” recalled its ambassador to Iran, and claimed the strike killed civilians, including two children
In a statement, its government said it “reserves the right to respond,” including with military force
